Staci’s New Beginning in Life!

“DRMM . . . they just do so much good.” —Staci, a grateful neighbor

Staci’s heart broke when her mother passed away. It broke because of her deep love and sorrow . . . but also because she knew how much her children were losing with the death of their grandmother.

You see, her mother had stepped in to raise Staci’s children when addiction consumed her. Now, they had no one . . . unless Staci could finally find a way to change her life.

Desperate, Staci reached out to learn where she could get the help she urgently needed.

“They told me that I was going to DRMM, to a Christian-based women and children’s rehab. I was like, no, because I didn’t believe God could forgive me for the things I had done in my past. But I was told, ‘Well, if you want to get clean, that’s where you’ll go.’”

It was tough for Staci to walk through the Mission doors, and even tougher to believe she could be forgiven—was, in fact, already forgiven. “I slept in abandoned houses. I’d done some terrible things,” Staci says, shaking her head at the nightmare that was once her reality. “When I finally learned that God had forgiven me, I just had to learn to forgive myself.”

The Christ-centered services and programs at DRMM gave Staci the tools and support she needed to overcome addiction. She credits staff and other friends she made during that time for being an anchor to her newfound faith and sobriety. “God put those women in that facility at that time to save my life,” she says. “And that’s exactly what they did.”

Deeply thankful for the new beginning she received, Staci blinks back tears of gratitude. “The Mission did everything they could to make sure I could survive. And the donors are spectacular. You know, I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t had an opportunity to go to DRMM.”

This Christmas, Staci is celebrating 10 years of recovery, and she is giving back each day here at DRMM by helping others who are facing the seemingly insurmountable challenges she once faced, encouraging them with her own success because with God, all things are possible.

Thank you for your gift to DRMM to make new beginnings possible for more neighbors in desperate need now and in the new year ahead!
