Cold Weather Alert: Emergency Shelters and Warming Centers Open in Detroit

With temperatures expected to drop into the teens and wind chills reaching the single digits, the City of Detroit is activating overnight emergency shelters and daytime respite locations to protect residents from extreme cold conditions.

Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries will activate an overnight stand-by shelter at the following location:

Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries – Woodward Location Address: 13130 Woodward Avenue Opening: Wednesday, January 14 at 5:00 PM Closing: Tuesday, January 20 at 12:00 PM

In addition to overnight sheltering, the following locations will serve as warming centers for individuals seeking daytime relief from the cold:

Adam Butzel Complex

Coleman A. Young Recreation Center

Special MLK Day Hours: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these services and to share this information with anyone who may need assistance during this period of extreme cold.
