Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Celebrates KEM’s Street Dedication and Receives Surprise $10,000 Gift

Detroit, Mich. – Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM) proudly joined the City of Detroit on July 23, 2026, to celebrate one of its most inspiring success stories as Grammy-nominated R&B artist KEM was honored with a secondary street sign at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Third Street in conjunction with KEM Day.

The ceremony was attended by Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, community leaders, supporters, and members of the public who gathered to celebrate KEM’s extraordinary journey and lasting impact on the city.
The location holds deep personal significance for KEM. It was in this neighborhood, during a season of homelessness and addiction, that he began rebuilding his life while receiving services from Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. It was also where he found the inspiration that would later shape his breakthrough album, KEMISTRY.

DRMM President & CEO Dr. Chad Audi was among the guest speakers during the ceremony, reflecting on KEM’s remarkable journey from homelessness to international success.

“KEM’s story is a powerful reminder that hope, faith, and second chances can transform lives,” said Dr. Audi. “Every day at DRMM, we witness individuals taking the first steps toward rebuilding their lives. KEM’s journey is proof that with support, perseverance, and opportunity, transformation is possible.”

The celebration became even more meaningful when KEM surprised Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries with a $10,000 donation to support the organization’s ongoing work serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and other life challenges.

“We are deeply grateful for KEM’s generosity and his continued commitment to giving back,” Dr. Audi added. “His gift will help us continue providing shelter, recovery services, housing assistance, and hope to those who need it most.”
