“I used to carve wood as an escape, but I lost it for a while. When you get into drugs, you lose everything. But I am back to carving now!”

Walter has a special gift. He can look at a simple block of wood and see something beautiful within.

And Walter would say that you too have a gift. Because it was your gifts to DRMM that whittled away at his addiction, homelessness, and hopelessness with patience and loving care, revealing the beauty within.

Walter came to DRMM to escape the grip of drugs which had turned him into someone you could not even recognize today.

The downward spiral began when he was evicted from his apartment. Walter took to the streets, surviving any way he could. “I had nowhere to go. Living on the streets was really rough. I was eating out of garbage cans,” he says.

Fortunately, he ran into some old friends who told him he could get help putting his life back together at DRMM. And it was the agony of hunger that finally brought Walter through our doors. He received a good, wholesome meal provided by a friend like you for just $1.95, but that meal was just the beginning.

Because supporters like you make it possible, we were able to welcome Walter into our life-changing recovery program. His commitment and focus on rebuilding his life have paid huge dividends, and in just a couple of months Walter will rejoin our community and live independently.

“I was an addict and at war with myself. DRMM mended my soul and brought me back in tune with God,” Walter says. “DRMM really serves people. Whatever you need, they want to help. They’ve taken me to look at apartments, and taken me to get treatment for cancer. They help you help yourself.”

Thanks to your support of DRMM, Walter is clean, sober, and rejoicing in his renewed relationship with Christ. Deeply thankful for your compassion and generosity, Walter says, “Your gifts are a great thing. They are put to good use.” Thank you again for helping people like Walter get back on their feet this summer!
