Community Empowerment Award funding will transform a vacant lot into a safe, vibrant space for families, fostering wellness, community pride and connection.

The DTE Foundation is proud to partner with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM) to make a lasting difference in Highland Park. Through the recent Community Empowerment Award, we’re helping fund the Neighborhood Park Revitalization & Family Wellness Project, which will turn a long-neglected lot into a beautiful, safe park for families to enjoy.

This new space will feature a swing set and children’s play area, benches and shaded seating, protective ground surfacing and landscaping with native flowers and shrubs. Community volunteer build days will bring neighbors together to help create this park—a space that will serve more than 1,000 residents and give families a much-needed place for recreation, connection and well-being.

Our partnership with DRMM is more than building a park. It’s about building equity, safety and family wellness in a neighborhood that has long lacked accessible green space. Together, we’re strengthening family development, improving community pride and safety and engaging youth and residents in shaping their environment. With our support, the DRMM is able to increase community resources to enhance our shared mission to uplift vulnerable communities through dignity and opportunity.

Looking ahead, DRMM will host a Christmas celebration in December 2025 through its Adopt-A-Family program, distributing gifts to more than 2,000 families and reaching over 8,000 children. We invite the community to join us in this milestone moment of giving and joy.

“This project is a gift to the families of Highland Park,” said Dr, Chad Audi, president, DRMM. “With the support of the DTE Foundation, we are turning an overlooked space into a place of joy, safety and community pride. Together, we are building a legacy of hope where children can play and families can thrive.”
